Make Fall A Time To Glow

Tips for smoothing and brightening your skin
A summer in the sun can do wonders for a natural glow–but once the tan fades, skin can often be left looking discoloured and aged.
Sun damage can appear in many forms including small or large dark spots, freckles, melasma, fine lines, and growths such as solar keratoses, skin tags, broken capillaries, fibromas, or other textured lesions. These irregularities tend to occur in areas of the body most exposed to the sun including face, hands, shoulders, décolletage, and upper back.
Hyperpigmentation occurs when melanin is unevenly released in the base layers of the epidermis and pore walls through a process called melanogenesis. As we age our melanin producing cells break down and are less capable of releasing melanin evenly throughout the skin as a tan, and instead pigment occurs in uneven dark spots. Such discolourations can be unattractive and in some cases potentially dangerous. So how do we restore our skin to its bright, tight, even form? The expert Skin Therapists at Gina’s have compiled a list of treatments to reduce uneven pigment of all kinds.
Intensive Pulsed Light Therapy—The Photo Facial
Photorejuvenation uses the power of Intense Pulse Light (IPL) energy to reduce skin hyperpigmentation. As an added bonus this treatment also increases collagen production!
Using many different wavelengths of light, the Photorejuvenation device treats diverse skin conditions, including rosacea (redness, broken capillaries, spider veins, blotchiness) and brown discolouration (age spots, melasma, freckles, acne scarring). This treatment can be used to treat spots anywhere on the body, including the face and neck.
IPL penetrates deeper pigment cells without harming the top layer of the skin so there is little to no downtime after the treatment. Pigment cells in the skin absorb the light energy, converting it to heat to destroy unwanted pigment. Sun spots will temporarily darken and flake off as your body builds new skin with results showing in about a week.
A Photo Facial appointment only takes 30 minutes. Majority of results are apparent after one treatment, with some cases requiring up to four treatments (spaced 4-6 weeks apart).
Growth Removal—Lamprobe
Lamprobe treatments can be used to address textured lesions including Solar Keratoses, Skin Tags, Fibromas and Broken Capillaries. This is a precise, fast, and non-invasive spot treatment for immediate results.
The Lamprobe works by conducting a high frequency radio wave current which attracts the liquids on the skin’s surface or within the irregularity. The liquid is released through the probe, vaporizing the imperfection and drying the growth which usually heals and flakes off within two weeks of treatment. The Lamprobe only interacts with the top layer of the skin and does not cause any damage to the dermis so there is minimal scarring and no down time. Usually results are visible in just one treatment but could take up to three for larger growths.
Diego Dalla Palma’s Whitelight Skin Care Products
Diego Dalla Palma’s Whitelight line targets hyperpigmentation or dullness in the skin caused by sun exposure or hormonal changes (pregnancy and menopause).
This product is safe for all skin types. It is not a skin bleach or whitener, and respects the skin’s natural colour and tone while rebalancing melanin production to promote uniform pigmentation. The active ingredients in these products also enhance collagen production to create a smoother skin texture.
The line includes a Spot Targeting Roll-On 10ml, Serum-Lotion with Vitamin C 125ml, a moisturizing 24-Hour Even White Cream 50ml, and a four-week Kit Intensive Face Program.
The line uses the active ingredient Phytic Acid which counteracts existing hyperpigmentation and irregular skin texture. It works by blocking the entrance of iron and copper in the formation of melanin. The antioxidant action is important to the skin because oxidation stress is an important factor in the reduction of the inflammatory process, the precursor to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation lesions.
When used in a skin routine incorporating Glycolic or Retinoic Acid, Physic Acid (2% to 4%) has been proven to be very efficient in the treatment of melasma.
The active ingredients Pro White B-Spheres and Vitamin C, are also used in the line to prevent future irregularities in melanin formation, fight free radicals and irritants, and reduce oxidation. The line works on the surface for colour correction and inside the skin to achieve a more uniform complexion with a strong action in melanocytes (pigment producing cells).
