Take care of stubborn hairs from the face and body quickly and efficiently with electrolysis. For those dealing with a few pesky chin hairs that never seem to go away–the battle is finally over! With the help of a medical grade device, trained estheticians are able to destroy the growth center of localized hairs with energy causing little to no downtime. Unlike laser hair removal, electrolysis can treat even the finest and faintest hairs. It isn’t photosensitive, making it a suitable treatment for any hair or skin tone. Electrolysis removes hairs one at a time, so it is ideal for treating small treatment areas precisely. Common treatment areas are upper lip, chin, sideburns, etc.
How it works?
Electrolysis is a method of removing individual hairs from the face and body by inserting a sanitized and disposable needle directly into the base of the follicle and releasing an electric current of chemical or heat energy into the base (the hair is later removed with a tweezer) prohibiting any further growth. There are three different types of electrolysis:
- Short-wave diathermy/thermolysis: Heat (the quicker option).
- Galvanic electrolysis: Heat and chemicals.
- A mix of both: The top choice for thick and curly hairs.
Multiple sessions are needed and may take up to a year to see permanent results. Hair grows in cycles so while you may permanently remove the hairs present at the time of your treatment, there are other dormant hairs that most grow out to be effectively treated. Scheduled sessions are booked according to the hair’s growth cycle and may change with time. This service can be performed on localized areas of the body and face. Candidacy for electrolysis depends on several factors:
- Hair density
- Size of the area
- Consistency of treatment
- Previous method of hair removal
- Pain tolerance
- Hormone stimulation (if the hair is hormone stimulated electrolysis cannot prevent new hair growth)
How to prepare
Before electrolysis:
- Stopping alternative forms of hair removal (2-4 weeks prior)
- Must be long enough to grasp with tweezers
- No use of retinol & glycolic acid (1 week prior)
- No tanning for 24 hours
- Applying SPF 20+
After electrolysis:
- Swelling, redness & itchiness of the skin
- Occasionally minor scabbing & blistering (use of antibiotic ointment is allowed)
- Apply SPF 20+
